Healthy, lustrous hair is important to beauty. Apart from external care, diet and lifestyle go a long way towards protecting it. A nutritious diet, for instance, is imperative to hair beauty. The hair is actually fed by the nutrients in the blood stream.

For healthy hair growth, the diet should supply the body with vitamins, minerals and enzymes, along with the required amount of proteins and other nutrients.

Diet for lustrous hair
  • Include fresh fruits, raw salads, sprouts, yoghurt, cottage cheese, beans, lentils, fish and lean meats in your diet.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • If you are suffering from any disease, consult a doctor before making changes in your diet.

Tips for dry hair
During winter, when the weather is cold and dry, the hair really suffers. We sit outside in the sun and use hot water for washing the hair. These dry out the hair and lead to problems like split ends.
  • For dry hair, apply a creamy conditioner after shampooing. Take less quantity and massage lightly into the hair. Leave on for two minutes and rinse with plain water.
  • You can also apply a leave-on type of conditioner or hair serum.
  • Hot oil therapy is very useful for dandruff and dry hair. Heat pure coconut oil or olive oil. Apply on the scalp. Dip a towel in hot water, squeeze out the water and wrap the hot towel around the head like a turban. Keep on for five minutes. Repeat the wrap three or four times.
Home Remedies
  • For dry hair, mix together one egg, one tablespoon pure almond oil, juice of a lemon and one teaspoon pure glycerin. Massage into the hair. Wear a plastic shower cap and keep on for an hour before washing your hair.
  • A beer rinse also adds lustre to the hair. Add the juice of a lemon to the beer. Rinse the hair with it after shampooing. Leave on for five minutes and rinse with plain water.
  • To add shine and volume, take a tea-water and lemon rinse. Boil used tea leaves again in enough water. Cool and strain. Then add the juice of a lemon and use as a last rinse after shampooing.
  • For dandruff, add two tablespoons of vinegar to a mug of water and use as a last rinse after shampooing.
Hot and cold infusions of hibiscus flowers and leaves
  • For hot infusions, add flowers and leaves to hot water and allow to remain for 10 to 12 hours. Strain and use the liquid as a last rinse after shampoo.
  • For cold infusions, the flowers and leaves should stay immersed overnight in cold water. Squeeze them and strain water. Wash your hair with it.
  • The paste or juice of the flowers can also be applied on the hair to achieve shine and better growth.
